At SMM 2026 in Hamburg, Bennu is highlighting a methane removal system proven to perform under shipping’s toughest operating conditions.

Next month, the global maritime industry will descend on Hamburg for SMM, the world's leading trade fair for shipbuilding, machinery, and marine technology. This year's theme, "driving the maritime transition," puts decarbonization at the center of the conversation, and one question will be on the minds of shipowners and operators throughout the show: which climate technologies can actually hold up on board a vessel, not just in a lab?

Shipping is one of the harshest operating environments any technology will face. Equipment on board must, above all, be safe for the crew and the ship. It has to run continuously in tight mechanical spaces, without pulling a crew member off other duties for monitoring. It has to tolerate constant vibration, shifting temperatures, humidity, and salt exposure that would degrade lesser systems within months. And it has to install and operate within the real limits of a working vessel, where downtime is costly and space is scarce.


Bennu's methane removal system was designed around those exact constraints from day one. It is compact, modular, energy efficient, and built to integrate into real vessel operations without disrupting them. Nothing about the design assumes ideal conditions, because ships never offer them.

That design held up where it counts. Bennu's partnership with lomarlabs produced the world's first extended at-sea trial of a maritime methane removal system, running our technology through the same conditions vessel crews face every day. 


That track record matters because shipping doesn't reward technology that only works some of the time. Methane slip from LNG-fueled engines is an ongoing, measurable problem, and operators need a solution that keeps pace with vessel operations. Our pilot is showing that our system does exactly that.
