Methane:
The Overlooked
Climate Threat
Methane is driving a third of current global warming. Bennu’s technology permanently removes it from the atmosphere, helping reduce the rate of warming within our lifetime.
Understanding the Harm Greenhouse Gases Cause to the Earth
Greenhouse gasses like methane and carbon dioxide trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere. As these gases accumulate, they cause temperatures to rise, disrupting natural ecosystems, melting polar ice, and intensifying extreme weather events like hurricanes, droughts, and floods. This warming also threatens biodiversity, agriculture, and human health, making the reduction of greenhouse gases critical for a stable and healthy planet.
What is Methane?
Methane, the primary ingredient of natural gas, is the second most abundant greenhouse gas in the atmosphere after carbon dioxide. It is released directly into the atmosphere from industries like energy, agriculture, and waste management. Nature also emits methane from decaying vegetation, some of which is trapped as bubbles under the ocean within ice or permafrost.
What is Carbon Dioxide?
Carbon dioxide is produced by burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas. It is the most abundant man-made greenhouse gas, responsible for trapping heat in the atmosphere and contributing significantly to global warming.
Less methane results in cleaner air and improved respiratory health, particularly for vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions
We Can Impact Climate Change in Our Lifetime
Because methane is so potent in warming our planet, removing it from the atmosphere can slow the rate of global warming within our lifetime. This isn’t hoping for impact 100 years in the future – the benefits of reduced methane levels will be felt in the near term by current generations.
Our method is simple, affordable and scalable. It’s the perfect low-risk, high-reward complement to global efforts to reduce methane emissions at their source.
